The connection between nation, nation-state, and the Janus-faced nature of national memory lies in the way that the nation-state constructs and perpetuates a collective memory that serves to unify and define the nation. The nation-state, as a political entity, seeks to create a cohesive national identity through the promotion of a shared history, culture, and values. However, this national memory can also be Janus-faced, meaning it has two contradictory aspects. On one hand, it can serve to unite and strengthen the nation, while on the other hand, it can also be used to exclude and marginalize certain groups or narratives that do not fit into the dominant national memory. This duality reflects the complex and often contested nature of national identity and memory within the nation-state. **

Poland can be considered both a cultural nation and a nation-state. As a cultural nation, Poland has a rich history, language, traditions, and customs that have been passed down through generations, creating a strong sense of cultural identity among its people. As a nation-state, Poland is a sovereign country with defined borders, a government, and institutions that govern its citizens. The combination of these factors makes Poland a unique blend of a cultural nation and a nation-state, where cultural heritage and national identity are intertwined with political and territorial sovereignty. **
